Kiikiwaahk
“Kiikiwaahk” (English translation: Home) is a mixed media painting. The piece features the Caron Home at Batoche National Historic Site, my ancestral home that was last owned by my great great grandfather before being turned over to parks Canada. The piece captures a spiritual experience I had in July of 2025, where I was visited by a bald eagle at the Caron House and my journey to the house was filled with asters and pollinators. My day out there felt wrapped in the love and guidance of my ancestors and I wanted to create something to capture that.
This piece is primarily acrylic on canvas and wood (the feather is wood), with some beadwork carrying elements out from the scene and onto the sash. The canvas is 10X20 inches with the feather adding an additional inch to the total length.
